Crimsafe® Frequently Asked Questions

Unlike traditional security doors and grilles fitted with bars that can make a home look more like a prison, Crimsafe® is a stylish mesh product that will not impede your vision and will compliment your home. Whilst inferior products merely glue or wedge the mesh into the frame, Crimsafe®‘s patented Security Mesh Clamp System involves sandwiching the Tensile Tuff ® Security mesh between two serrated pieces of aluminium then screwing this mesh into place resulting in a vice-like grip that is much, much stronger.

Crimsafe® is constructed from 304 Grade Stainless Steel which is much stronger than other security mesh products that are made with only 316 Marine Steel. Crimsafe ® Tensile Tuff ® Security mesh is also 26.5% thicker than other products so if you kicked at it repeatedly you would most likely injure yourself before breaking through.

Yes, midrails can come standard with your Crimsafe® doors at no extra cost. Midrails can strengthen the resistance of the door’s lock against a jemmy attack and protect the hinges of your door by reducing an intruder’s ability to lever it from the wall.

Enjoy even greater peace of mind with a Crimsafe Safe-S-Cape®, manufactured and supplied locally by Wynstan. In an emergency situation you need to evacuate your home in a matter of seconds and trying to get through a Crimsafe® Fixed Window would be very difficult. The Crimsafe Safe-S-Cape® range featuring its keyless emergency exit function was developed for emergency exits. Although they are easy to escape from internally they are still extremely difficult to penetrate from the outside as they feature the same screw-clamped™ mesh and a triple “anti-jemmy” design that protects the lock.

Fire attenuation is the reduction of radiant heat and spread of flame – Fire Attenuation is not the same as bushfire protection, fire rating or fire resistance. When tested the Crimsafe screen achieved a rating of 45% for attenuation of radiant heat flux. This is a very high rating as it means that almost half of the heat from a fire source on the other side of the screen does not transfer through Crimsafe Tensile Tuff® Security mesh.

Crimsafe® is coated in a secret formula with special additives to prevent corrosion. The black powered coating on the mesh was developed in conjunction with Dulux to ensure UV fade-resistance and to actively repel dust and impurities. It is only the airborne impurities that may build up on the surface of the mesh or frame which may oxidise and change colour. It is recommended that Crimsafe® be periodically cleaned using a hose or bucket with a mild detergent. At the heart of your Crimsafe® Security Product is the Tensile-Tuff™ woven high tensile 304 grade stainless steel mesh, surrounded by architectural grade aluminium framing. Crimsafe® mesh is high corrosion resistant, however all meshes can act as a filter, trapping airborne dirt and impurities. Staining of the mesh coating caused by a combination of salt, moisture and airborne impurities may result in reddish marks (common airborne impurities) or ‘fluffy’ white marks (salt build up). It is therefore essential that routine maintenance occurs so as to keep the product in pristine condition and proper working order, as outlined in the following table:

Regular maintenance involves a wash down of frames and mesh with Crimsafe® Wash & Wax (or regular care wash and wax) in warm water using a soft bristle brush (banister brush) followed by a clean water rinse.

If stubborn marks occur, the use of Crimsafe® Stain Clean in accordance with the directions for the use on that product, should aid stain removal.
