2021 Pantone Colour of the Year – Grey & Yellow

The world’s leading authority on colour trends, Pantone, has announced their prestigious Colours of the Year for 2021. That’s right, for only the second time in 21 years, Pantone has chosen two colours of the year, in which for this year are ‘Illuminating’ – a bright, vibrant yellow and ‘Ultimate Gray’ – a more neutral, calming shade.

“The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock sold but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit” – Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute.

The Pantone Colour of the year goes through a vigorous selection process, from analysing trends in fashion, movies, arts, design, travel and more. The Pantone Colour of the Year forecasts global colour trends (such as last years’ Classic Blue, which in hindsight seems to perfectly fit the year of 2020). The Pantone Institute also partners with global brands in their colour design strategies. So you can definitely expect to start seeing this colour pairing everywhere!

Wanting to pair the yellow and grey into your fabric? Why not try our Birdsong – Midnight. A beautiful blend of colours and patterns, you will have those bright pops of yellow against the grey backdrop.

Using Blinds as a Colour Accent

What better way to create an accent piece in your home than with your blinds?! Many people opt for white or neutral blinds and then add in pops of colour with accessories such as soft furnishings. However, with this years’ bright and bold colour of Yellow why not make the blinds themselves a feature?

If you’re liking this idea, you could go for our bright fabric of Carnival – Ochre for something like the above. Want the yellow but not too bright? Why not opt for our Pico – Mustard fabric?

If you’re more after the soothing grey, we have a wide array of different shades to tickle your fancy. For simple you can go for Elements – Storm Wheat BV, or Palm Beach – Gull. For something darker and bolder why not go for Byron – Storm?
