It’s the look of the moment, so it was no surprise that mother and son Lenore and Bradley chose a Hamptons theme for the renovation of their Sydney cottage as part of this year’s House Rules competition.
Working within a restrained palette of rich navy and crisp whites, the remaining teams created an elegant and classic home for Lenore (who shares the house with partner Michael), using timeless details such as timber panelling and Wynstan’s PolySilk Plantation Shutters.
The hero of the house was undoubtedly the kitchen – always the key item for a Hamptons home. A marble island bench allowed for open plan cooking and dining zones, set off by the generous light provided by the skylights and diffused throughout the room by the PolySilk Shutters.
With one of the House Rules asking for the house to be “opened up with light and love”, the shutters featured in almost every room, giving it a consistent and cohesive look throughout and a perfect match with new dark timber flooring.
Classically beautiful, the Polysilk shutters are virtually maintenance free and versatile because they are suitable for wet areas, including bathrooms, kitchens and laundries.
House Rules Judge Saul Myers particularly mentioned the Wynstan PolySilk shutters in Tanya and Dave’s laundry, saying that they were the hero of the room, framing the space beautifully. “They are a real centrepiece and just beautiful,” he said.
